"Rīgas satiksme" together with Riga municipal police is launching a campaign for safety in public transport
"Rīgas satiksme" is cooperation with Riga Municipal Police is launching a campaign for safety in public transport. During the campaign, visual information will be available inside public transport vehicles and at public transport stops – passengers will be urged not to be indifferent and to call the municipal police at 110 or to inform drivers if there are persons in public transport who disturb (are noisy, stinky etc.) or threaten other passengers.
Every day "Rīgas satiksme" carries more than 400 000 passengers. When passengers were polled about the level of satisfaction with public transport services and asked about what adverse events their witnessed in public transport, 79% in 2011 and 87% in 2013 answered that „there are individuals in dirty or stinking clothes among passengers”, and 66% in 2011 and 73% in 2013 answered that „there are individuals among passengers whose behaviour disturbs other passengers (e.g. noisy, verbally offending other passengers etc.)”.
The goal of the campaign is to inform public transport passengers about how they should act in case their safety or comfort in public transport are endangered as well as to urge them not to be indifferent and to be active also in cases where other passengers or public transport vehicle are endangered. The information materials will be put inside public transport vehicles for several months.
